Four Valley nightlife veterans — Chad Landau, G.R. Boone, Brooks Holcomb and Kyle Dibble — have managed to figure out how to please Old Town Scottsdale’s party crowd. They opened side-by-side lounges: one that appeals to men, and the other that appeals to women. In late 2010, they opened Smashboxx, a beat-thumping club with rows of flat-screen televisions and masculine touches, such as pictures of Steve McQueen and duck hunters on the walls.
A year later, they acquired the space that used to be the long-running Crown Room, turning it into a feminine lounge with fruity cocktails, complimentary champagne, Vogue covers on the walls and flowers in crystal vases. On Friday nights, you’ll see lines out the door at both spots with partyers bouncing back and forth all night.
